Isaac Cranshaw

Vocational scope: General surgery

Isaac graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1994 and subsequently completed advanced training in general surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2004. He then undertook further subspecialisation training in Breast and Endocrine surgery in Sydney in 2005. In 2006 Isaac was awarded the Genesis Oncology Fellowship to train in advanced endocrine surgery at Hôpital Huriez (CHRU) in Lille, France. The following year he was appointed as the International Fellow in Surgical Oncology at the prestigious Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where he gained further subspecialist experience in melanoma, skin and soft tissue tumours.

Isaac returned to Auckland in 2007 to take up an appointment at Auckland City Hospital as a general and oncology surgeon where his practice includes the surgical management of melanoma, breast cancer, endocrine and soft tissue tumours.

Dr (Mrs) Magdalena Biggar

Vocational Scope: General Surgery

Magda is a specialist breast and endocrine surgeon. After graduating from Auckland University Medical School and training in general surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, she gained further subspecialist training in Australia and England.

She is part of the busy South Auckland Breast Cancer Clinic and has a clinical role in BreastScreen Aotearoa. In private practice, and as a CMH consultant surgeon, she has a wide experience with a range of breast disease and is committed to quality cancer care in particular..

Magda’s other interests include thyroid surgery and the education of future surgeons. Together with husband Kevin, she has two children.

Mr Stephen Benson

Vocational Scope: Oncoplastic Breast, General & Vein Surgeon, General Surgeon, Breast

Stephen is an Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, married with two daughters and one son. He graduated from Birmingham University 1991 and undertook his initial surgical training around the West Midlands, UK in General, Vascular and Transplant Surgery. Stephen gained his General FRCS in 1996. Following a period of scientific research Stephen was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine in 2001. Further senior sub-specialty training in Breast and Plastic Surgery led to FRCS with a Breast Specialty exam in 2005.

Later in 2005, Stephen and his family moved permanently to New Zealand where Stephen rotated through Hamilton, North Shore and Auckland Hospitals before becoming a New Zealand Specialist. This combined General and Plastic surgery training enables Stephen to offer a wide range of Breast Surgery including breast cancer surgery, cosmetic breast surgery (augmentation and reduction), benign breast and nipple surgery and breast cancer reconstruction.

Dr David Benson-Cooper

Vocational scope: Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology

David has worked in the Hawkes Bay, London, Auckland, Edmonton and Adelaide. He completed a Fellowship in Breast Imaging at the University of Alberta before returning to Auckland and becoming one of the founding radiologists at Mercy Radiology in 1984. His special interest is in breast imaging and he is one of New Zealand’s leading breast imaging radiologists.

He is known for his kind, gentle nature and has an extensive loyal following amongst his patients and fellow physicians. David has recently stepped down as the Medical Director of Mercy Radiology, having given strong medical leadership and guidance to the practice over the last few years.

Dr Sugania Reddy

Vocational Scope: Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology

Su completed her postgraduate training at WITS university in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to NZ in 2009,initially working in Christchurch and then joined Mercy Radiology in 2011.

Su has a particular interest in breast imaging, gaining further experience in recent breast imaging techniques following a visiting fellowship at University of Virginia, Charlottesville,USA. She also holds a consultant radiologist position at Middlemore Hospital since 2012.

Dr Jeremy Whitlock

Vocational Scope: Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology

Jeremy graduated from the University of Auckland in 1989, and subsequently completed his training in radiology with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists in 1997. He then undertook a further two years of subspecialty fellowship training in mammography in the UK from 1997 to 1999, working in internationally recognised breast units at King’s College Hospital, London and the Nottingham Breast Institute, Nottingham.

Since returning to New Zealand in 1999, Jeremy has worked as a full-time radiologist specialising in breast imaging. Over this time he has gained experience in various breast imaging modalities including mammography, ultrasound and MRI. His particular interest is in breast biopsy techniques, including ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration, ultrasound guided core biopsy, stereotactic core biopsy and vacuum assisted biopsy.

He has held the position of Clinical Head of Breast Imaging at Auckland City Hospital since 2000, and currently works as a consultant radiologist at Greenlane Clinical Centre as well as Mercy Breast Clinic. He is also a member of the both the Auckland Breast Cancer Study Group and the ANZ Breast Cancer Trials Group.

Dr Keshnee Govender

Vocational Scope: Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology

Kesh is a graduate of the University of Witswatersrand and obtained her radiology degree in South Africa. Kesh has been a consultant since 2011. Kesh is a general radiologist with a subspecialty interest in breast and oncologic imaging. Kesh has been with Mercy Radiology since 2023.

Dr Trevor Chan

Vocational Scope: Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology

Trevor Chan is a graduate of University of Auckland and he trained in radiology in Auckland. He has been a consultant radiologist at Waitemata DHB since 1999. Trevor is a general radiologist with a subspecialty interest in breast imaging and non-vascular intervention. He has been an assessing radiologist at BreastScreen Waitemata Northland since 2006. Trevor has worked at Mercy Radiology since 2013.

Dr Margaret Weston

Specialising in breast imaging.

Margie is a graduate of Otago Medical School. She completed her radiology training in Auckland, with a breast fellowship in Perth Australia following completion of her training.  Margie has worked in breast imaging since 1998. She has worked in private practice and with Breastscreen Aotearoa. She has recently returned to Auckland after several years in Christchurch at Canterbury Breast Care and commenced at Mercy Radiology in 2021.

Dr Sook Yee Yong

Specialising in Breast Imaging and MSK Radiology

Sook Yee is a graduate of Otago University’s School of Medicine and completed her radiology training in Wellington, New Zealand. In 2021 she completed a one-year fellowship in Breast Imaging with Breast Screen Aotearoa at Hutt Hospital; and in 2022 completed a second fellowship in MSK Radiology in Tasmania, Australia.

Sook Yee joined Mercy Radiology in March 2023 following her return to New Zealand.
